Smiles are what make Meals on Wheels association with Pueblo s Senior Resource Development Agency (SRDA) worthwhile.
This year, as part of their frequent delivery schedule, the meals and gift donations are missing some of those smiles due to masks. But, the Valentine s Day deliveries Friday will still ensue.
Donations this year have come from Leeward Pronghorn Solar Park who donated several crossword and puzzles books. Deliza Klovas’ fourth-grade class at Belmont Elementary School donated Valentine s cards with handwritten messages. Joan and Pablo Ramirez also donated cards for the occasion.
Communities who are 60-plus and have registered to be part of the program will all have a holiday basket of their own.
Last week s Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment update on outbreaks of COVID-19 showed a significant drop in newly identified sites, suggesting that the worst might finally be over for retail establishments, health-care centers and other facilities. But no: The latest weekly CDPHE outbreak number is almost double that from just seven days earlier. Moreover, one of the new entries, the Apple Store at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, demonstrates how difficult it is for even the most diligent operations to keep the novel coronavirus at bay indefinitely.
In a November post about COVID-19 safety at malls in Level Red zones, we singled out the Cherry Creek Apple Store as the gold standard for pandemic-era safety: masked staff, monitored access complete with temperatures taken at the door, appointment scheduling, extremely limited capacity and more. If an outlet that s instituted such procedures isn t immune from viral spread, then nowhere is entirely safe and right no

CONFUSION HAPPENING ACROSS PUEBLO AFTER YESTERDAY S VACCINE CLINIC OPENED AT THE PUEBLO MALL

PUEBLO â Tuesday has sparked confusion and frustration across the nation, especially in Pueblo, when it comes to those in Phase 1A and 1B getting their COVID-19 vaccine.
Monday s opening of the vaccination clinic at the Pueblo Mall resulted in miles of traffic and some 70-year-olds and older waiting in a line of cars for upwards of five hours. In an effort to prevent future backups, the Pueblo Health Department launched pueblovaxnow.com where people who are eligible at this time can sign up and be put on a waiting list that will notify you when it is your turn and where to go get your vaccine. However, some 70-year-olds and older do not have access or the ability to use computers.
Staff at the Pueblo Convention Center are ready to host weddings and other events, and they are even eyeing some holiday gatherings after Pueblo County moved to less restrictive safety precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The convention center, 320 Central Main St., reopened Monday after being closed most of November and December. The reopening was made possible by Pueblo County’s move from state health department’s level red classification to level orange on the state s COVID-19 dial. This allows for gatherings of up to 50 people per room.
“We are excited to be open again,” said Nick Palmiotti, director of sales and marketing.
For the fifth consecutive week, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has added more than 200 new entries to its list of outbreaks related to COVID-19, and an increasing number have tallied death tolls higher than since the early days of the pandemic.
An extreme example is Windsor Healthcare, a skilled-nursing facility in Weld County. The CDPHE has confirmed sixty positive staff cases, 85 positive resident cases and seven resident deaths.
The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The vast majority of businesses and facilities identified as outbreaks remain open while working with the department to monitor symptoms and prevent future infections.
