COLUMBUS, Ohio – The only women’s hockey series in the nation featuring two Top 5 teams played out like the two heavyweights this year that are the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 2 Minnesota Golden Gophers. Minnesota broke a 4-4 tie midway through the third period with a pair of goals and went on to take the first game of the series Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink by the score of 7-4.
The win snapped Minnesota’s two-game losing streak and improved its record to 9-3. Ohio State had its three-game win streak broken. The Buckeyes are now 8-5 on the year.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior
Emma Maltais is this week’s WCHA Forward of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon.
Maltais, from Burlington, Ontario, had a hand in five of Ohio State’s seven goals in a split against No. 2 Minnesota last weekend. In Friday’s game, she was part of all four Buckeye goals that were scored, assisting on three of them while scoring one late in the second period. On Saturday, she had an empty net goal with 12 seconds remaining in the third period to secure a 3-1 win.
During Friday’s game, Maltais also reached a significant career milestone when she recorded her 100th career assist. She is just the second player in program history with 100 career assists (Laura McIntosh, who played from 2009-12 and had 123 assists, is the other).
