Charges filed against three current and former Scranton School District officials accused of endangering children and the public are based on a flawed investigation that is wholly unsupported by evidence, attorneys for the defendants said in court papers.
In a sharply worded legal brief, attorneys Frank Nocito and Brian McMonagle contend the state attorney generalâs officeâs filing of charges against their client, Alexis Kirijan, Ed.D., and her co-defendants, Jeff Brazil and Joseph Slack, is a âmiscarriage of justice.â
Facing the reality it has no case, the office now seeks to forgo a preliminary hearing because prosecutors fear the charges will be dismissed outright, the attorneys said.
