Saint Michael s College 114th Commencement is Thursday in two outdoor ceremonies

Glenn ’56 and Susan Good established the Good Prize for Excellence in Business Administration and History to recognize academic excellence in both a pre-professional field and a liberal arts program. The award comes with a $500 cash prize to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average in those two majors. Glenn Good died on July 23, 2020, but his legacy remains on campus through this Prize. Board members agreed to issue nearly $9.3 million in school improvement refunding bonds, which should save Vantage a substantial amount of money. “Currently we’re looking at saving our taxpayers approximately $983,000,” Treasurer Laura Peters said. “Basically we’re expecting to have a 10 percent savings by refunding these and refinancing them. Usually you look at refunding them when it’s three percent but we’re saving a lot more for our taxpayers.”

Seniors Honored During Annual Awards Luncheon

May 5, 2021 Members of Christendom’s Class of 2021 were honored with academic, athletic and community achievement awards on Wednesday, May 5, during the college’s annual Senior Awards Luncheon. The event honored the best and brightest of the class, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the Christendom community. The Student Activities Council’s (SAC) Joe McGlynn Award for Service was given to Emily Golden. Demonstrating leadership and hard work on hundreds of college events, Golden exemplified the selfless giving spirit that is a trademark of Christendom’s SAC. The Crusader Leadership Award was given to John Jakubisin and Bridget Duffy for their exemplary contributions to the college’s athletics department. Each was an important leader both on and off the field during their time at Christendom, competing for the college in varsity rugby and cross-country respectively.

White County Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb has again ruled Illinois’ FOID card is unconstitutional, setting the stage for the state Supreme Court to again examine the matter. In 2017, Vivian Brown was charged with violating the FOID card law by owning a rifle without a card; White County sided with her then, but, after an appeal to the Supreme Court, it opted not to make a decision last year. The USDA has released Illinois county estimates for the 2020 hay harvest. Wayne County was estimated to have harvested 5,550 acres of non-alfalfa hay totaling 9,900 tons. Yield per acre was 1.8 tons. Edwards County harvested 2,300 acres for 5,700 tons, an average of 2.5 tons per acre. White County had 1,570 acres harvested for 3,030 tons. Statewide, Illinois farmers harvested 270,000 acres of non-alfalfa hay for 621,000 tons. Average statewide yield per acre was 2.3 tons.
