Review of Ghana s 2020 polls: Contest, collation, controversy

Over 17 million Ghanaians registered to participate in the December 2020 general elections. The polls were keenly watched especially in the presidential race that pit incumbent Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo against former president John Dramani Mahama. The voting process ended relatively peacefully till the collation process where the main opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC; has alleged massive irregularities costing them a parliamentary majority. The party is also contesting the presidential outcome. According to official results by the Electoral Commission, EC; president Akufo-Addo emerged winner of the vote with over 51% of valid votes cast. All things being equal, he will be serving his second and final term as president.
