Senators seek probe on NTF-ELCAC s performance

(FILE PHOTO) Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 26) Several members of the Senate filed a resolution Monday calling for an investigation into the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict s performance, including its activities and budget, following incidents of red-tagging. Resolution No. 707 said the review is needed to see whether the task force has been fulfilling its mandate and whether its ₱19 billion budget for 2021 would be better off used for the needs of the public during the pandemic. The resolution was introduced by Senators Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Sherwin Gatchalian, Ralph Recto and Joel Villanueva. It noted incidences of red-tagging involving the task force, particularly those concerning community pantries.

Senators want law enforcers to probe red-tagging of community pantries

By HANA BORDEY, GMA News Published April 20, 2021 5:27pm Eight senators from the majority and the minority blocs of the Senate want law enforcement to launch an investigation into the profiling and red-tagging of community pantry organizers. The senators released a joint statement on Tuesday slamming the social media posts of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) apparently linking the community pantry initiatives to the communist movement. The senators also urged the authorities to hold a dialogue with the organizers of the community pantries an initiative which is intended to help people by donating food and other essentials.
