Following the increased rate of insecurity in the country, Former Department of State Service (DSS) Director, Mike Ejiofor has joined voices with Nigerians calling for the removal of service chiefs.
Ejiofor during an interview with Channels Television on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari should surprise Nigerians and respond to the calls by those seeking removal of the service chiefs.
“I expect that Mr President should take Nigerians by surprise, change the service chiefs. The attitude of Nigerians to security agencies should also change.
House of Representatives has passed a resolution mandating the Minister Of State For Labour Festus Keyamo (SAN), to stay action on the planned January 2021 implementation of the Special Public Works Programme of the Federal Government.
The reps passed the resolution on Tuesday, saying the programme will not be implemented until a comprehensive list of beneficiaries from the Nigerian directorate of employment is made available.
Under the programme, 774,000 people are expected to be recruited by the Federal Government, with the sum of N52 billion, earmarked in the 2020 budget.
1,000 persons are to be employed from each of the 774 Local Government Areas in the country, for the programme which is said to be a post-COVID-19 poverty alleviation initiative, approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Zamfara State government has ordered the immediate closure of some Boarding and Day Schools in the state.
Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, who is the Commissioner for Education, made the announcement while briefing reporters in Gusau, the state capital.
He explained that the affected schools were those that share borders with Katsina, Kaduna, and Sokoto States.
The commissioner noted that the three states were prone to banditry, saying that the decision was important to forestall any form of attack on the schools.
He added that the action was necessary considering the security situation in the country and to prevent what happened at the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State.
