Seriake Dickson
The Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Seriake Dickson addressed the media in the Senate on two contentious issues bothering on the passage of the 3% equity shareholding for host communities, which he said they disagreed with, and the contentious clause 52(3) in the 2021 Electoral Act Amendment bill that was recently passed by the National Assembly.
He called for a review of the 3% equity upwards to the 5% proposed by the joint committee on petroleum before Buhari assents to it as it may trigger another round of insecurity in the Niger Delta. He also cautioned the National Assembly over the usurpation of INEC powers on electoral results transmission. JOHN AKUBO was there.
After over 13 years of failed attempts, the Ninth National Assembly has finally passed the long awaited Petroleum Industry Bill, report Deji Elumoye and Udora Orizu Report
Nigeria, for about one and half decades, has been on a journey with the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), with a lot of anticipation and promises, which failed overtime in previous National Assemblies. However, two years into the Ninth Assembly, the two chambers at plenary on July 1, passed the Bill for third reading after duly adopting all the 318 clauses as recommended by the Committee on PIB after some amendments. With this latest development, it seems the Ninth Assembly is set to make history, if the PIB is eventually assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

As the ongoing public hearing on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution opened in Port Harcourt, Thursday, Rivers and Akwa Ibom State governments have demanded that the constitution be reviewed to reflect the wishes of the Nigerian people.
They also demanded that devolution of more powers to the state be included in the constitution, arguing that too many powers reside with the centre to the detriment of the states and the general development of the country.
The Attorneys General and Commissioners of Justice of the two states, Zacheaus Adango for Rivers and Uko Idong of Akwa Ibom respectively made the presentation at the South-South zone of the Public Hearing which was held in Port Harcourt.

Breaking: Wike Drops Bombshell on APC, Backs Additional State for Ndigbo
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has thrown his weight in support of another state in Eastern Nigeria just as he made damning allegations against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike said he is supporting the creation of the additional State in the southeast geopolitical zone in order to correct the current imbalance in the six geopolitical zones.
According to him, ”there is no way the South-East should continue to have only five states. It is very unfair. Since other regions have six states, South-East should be made to have six states.”
