Vanguard News Senate to Establish Bitumen Training Institute in Ondo On By Henry Umoru – Abuja The Senate on Wednesday began the process of establishing a bitumen training institute in Ode Aye in Ondo State. The Bitumen Training Institute Ode Aye, Ondo State (Establishment) Bill, 2021 ( SB.663) sponsored by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ondo South was introduced yesterday and read the first time. Speaking on the bill, Tofowomo who noted that Ondo South has the largest bitumen deposit in Nigeria and the second largest in the whole world, stressed that there was an urgent need to establish such a very meaningful institute that would lead to the massive exploration of the mineral resources.

By Chuks Okocha The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has waded into the power tussle in the South-west chapter of the party that has pitted former Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose against Oyo State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde. The NWC has, therefore, mandated its Peace, Reconciliation and Strategy Committee to resolve the feud between the two zonal party chieftains, as part of efforts at repositioning the PDP in the South-west. The committee is headed by a former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, with former Gombe State Governor, Hassan Dankwambo; former House of Representatives Minority Leader, Hon. Mulikat Akande; former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke; a former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, as members.

Fayose and Makinde have reportedly been at loggerheads over the latter’s role in the Ekiti PDP crisis as well as the leadership of the party in the South-West. The strife, which has lingered for some months, had even recently seen the aides of the two engaging in a war of words on social media.
