An all-party Oireachtas group on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights has called for Poland to reform its abortion law, calling it an “attack” on women’s rights.
The 26-member group said Poland has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe and Irish politicians know from experience that a legal ban on abortion does not prevent it or reduce it.
In January, the Polish government published an announcement from the Constitutional Tribunal regarding the abortion law, which will result in a near-total ban on abortion.
Abortion is permitted in Poland only in situations of risk to the life or health of a pregnant woman, or if a pregnancy results from sexual assault.
