Gbarnga – Senator Henry Yallah of the Congress of Democratic Change, a constituent party of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has lost his re-election bid to Deputy Speaker Prince Moye of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).
Yallah, who was elected 2011, had been seeking a second nine-year term, garnered 24, 000 votes, which constitutes 35 per cent compared to Moye’s 38, 900 votes, which constitutes 55 per cent.

‘Lack of developments over the years’
It’s believed that many in the county were fed up with the alleged lack of development by Yallah during his nine years stint, leading to “enough is enough”, which greatly campaigned against him.

The Collaborating Political Parties has been projected to gain control of the Liberian Senate after winning three seats clearly with three others projected in their sight.
In 2018, the CPP was in control of 13 seats in the Senate, while the ruling CDC had seven, and the remaining 10 seats were shared among independent candidates.
However, CPP lawmakers over the time have voted along the agenda of the ruling CDC of President Weah and did little to checkmate the Executive or to properly critique bills coming from the presidency or the ruling party-dominated Hosue of Representatives.

In several counties, CPP candidates leading so far
The National Elections Commission’s first official preliminary results have put candidates of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) in a comfortable lead in four of eight counties out of the fifteen counties.
NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, yesterday reported that of the votes processed so far from 423 of the total of 1983 polling places, the incumbent Senator of Montserrado County, Abraham Darius Dillon of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), has obtained 44,692 votes, constituting 60.8 percent, while his main rival, Montserrado County District #5 Representative Thomas P. Fallah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has so far received 26,697 or 37.3 percent.
