[Kipsang Joseph, Standard] Security agencies have been forced to resume an operation to fish out bandits after multiple attacks were witnessed in Baringo, Laikipia and Turkana counties. Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya said that the intervention by political leaders who had requested for a one-month negotiation period had failed to bear fruit. Political leaders drawn from Baringo, West Pokot and Turkana had requested that we allow them to conduct a one-month peace campaign and voluntary disarmament. This has recorded minimal results and at least four attacks have been reported in the past two days, said Natembeya.

[Kipsang Joseph, Standard]   Multiple attacks in Baringo, Laikipia and Turkana counties have forced security agencies to resume an operation to flush out bandits from the troubled region. The operation in which Kapedo was its epicenter had been launched on January 18 to quell tension between warring communities at the Baringo-Turkana border following the killing of senior security personnel. General Service Unit Commander Tebakol Emadau, 53, was gunned down by bandits in Kapedo at the border of Baringo and Turkana counties. Four days later, a Chief Inspector of Police, Moses Lekairab, and his driver, Police Constable Benson Kaburu, were shot dead at Amayan Bridge.

Speaking at Longisa trading centre in Bomet yesterday, the Kanu chairman said he would engage the relevant ministries to have the issues addressed once and for all. “Let s not speak about 2022 while we still have the issue of Mau at hand. I m here to assure you, the people will be assisted,” said Gideon after opening a Kanu office at Mulot Sunset. Gideon was in company of Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat William, MPs William Kamket (Tiaty), William Chepkut (Ainapkoi), Abdikarim Osman (Fafi), West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Catherine Mukenyang, Baringo Woman Rep Gladwell Cheruiyot and the Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General and Nominated MP Wilson Sossion.

Sources told The Standard that Raila was holed up for the better part of the day at his Capitol Hill office and retreated to his Karen residence at around 5pm.
