The Senate is amending the Terrorism Prevention Bill, to prohibit the payment and receipt of ransom to release kidnapped persons.
The Bill which scaled the second reading during the plenary on Wednesday wass sponsored by Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi.
Leading the debate on the bill, Senator Onyewuchi says Kidnapping has become a fast and lucrative business, adding that according to the USA Global Risk Consultancy, Nigeria has the highest rate of kidnaps for a ransom of both locals and foreigners in all of Africa.
He warned that the continuous payment of ransom must not be encouraged and government should provide adequate security to end the menace of kidnapping in the country.
