in all candor one of the things i wish the president said last night was i heard him talk about the need to have a guest worker program. because he says we re at 3.6% unemployment and we need more labor in our country that. would help alleviate some of the crisis at the border. that is something i think the president should be more forth coming in saying he supports because i do think there s a possibility for partnership with democrats on that. joe, honestly it s so interesting when we listen to mark because it sounds like everybody s closer than the entractable situation that we find our self with the shutdown. here are the people that have expressed parting from the president s insistence on this shoutdown. these are the gop senators. murkowski, caputo, gardner, collins, rob bips, who all expressed they would be on board with allowing the federal agencies to open. so today when he meets with senate republicans, do you think there will be a break in the impasse? i don t know that
night, one from the president and one from chuck schumer and nancy pelosi. not a great performance by the way. however, the most important statements may have been from lisa murkowski, the republican senator from alaska who says she doesn t think that we should shut the government down while passing these appropriations bills. senator caputo from west virginia saying the same thing, john. we are two days away from this being the record the longest shutdown in american history. and that s the big problem that the senators are beginning to feel that pressure because there s no good reason and no clear exit ramp. the reason the president was saying privately as reported the new york times that he didn t think this would change in minds is the speech wasn t designed to. he talked about a crisis of the soul, a crisis of the heart, but this was an american carnage speech designed to demonize undocumented immigrants and rally the base around him. and to a degree unlike anything we ve ev
hiccup. but again, those are not the people you should be looking at right now because those are the people who have already made up their mind. the people you should be looking at are the ones who haven t said anything. not just flake, not just murkowski, not just collins. by the way, there was a fascinating photo of senator feinstein and senator murkowski talking in the capitol hallway yesterday with senator feinstein and her power move essentially, her arm leaning over the wall and almost towering over murkowski who is about a foot taller than senator feinstein. you should be watching them. but also watching people like senator caputo and senator sasse, the people who have not been vocal about this nomination because it is unclear where their votes will go. if you talk to kasie hunt and garrett haake, they will tell you that there are people who are undecided. soft yeses. don t know what they re going to do. it s hard to believe that that testimony from dr. ford is going to push the

the very people that have voted our two senators, senator manchin and senator caputo are the ones that are going to be so desperately hurt. we are in a very poor state. when they take away medicaid it s not only going to hurt my daughter who is not on medicaid now because she s working full time, but it s going to hurt the people in my state. it s going to hurt veterans which i m a veteran. 10% of the veterans are on medicaid. we re a rural state. a pharmacist in one of my churches said this is going to ruin hospitalization because little hospitals in a rural area will go out of business. it s going to hurt the employment rate. it s going to hurt people s access to health coverage.
