Democrats seek censure of Virginia state senator who praised Capitol rioters Laura Vozzella RICHMOND At least 10 Democrats in Virginia s state Senate want to take the rare step of censuring a Republican member who gave an inflammatory speech in Washington on Jan. 6 and praised the rioters who hours later stormed the U.S. Capitol as patriots. They are backing a resolution to censure state Sen. Amanda F. Chase (R-Chesterfield), a Trump-style provocateur seeking this year’s GOP nomination for Virginia governor, accusing her of “fomenting insurrection against the United States.” The “inflammatory statements and actions of Senator Amanda F. Chase before, during, and after the events that led to the insurrection . . . constitute a failure to uphold her oath of office and conduct unbecoming of a Senator,” the resolution reads.
