To see an old friend and also a great senator and Senate Leader and an author on the subject, you cant much better. The easy answer is that the jury is out on how its going to go. What i try to convey in the book was first that the senate has declined for a long period of time, not a couple of years, more like a couple of decades. The senate has declined in a way goes like that then stevens over the last nine or ten years. What were facing now i believe is a a diminished and we can senate at precisely the time we need a stron

It is emotional, and it has vexed this congress for decades. And while the floor debate were having right now can be trying and can be actually thrown off kilter by one more illtimed tweet from the president , we have to keep our eye on the ball, because as tough as it may seem right here, the stakes are so much higher for millions of people who live every day in this country. Lets begin with the house approving legislation narrowly last night to rewrite the no child left behind law. Why this debate now . The education law no child left behind expired in 2007. Right if did expire some time ago. Essentially what you have is people and states operating under a system of the department of education right now. Its been a big battle to get enough votes on either side to get this moving but it seems Like Congress is getting it going. What motivated lawmakers . What has this administration been doing in the absence of reauthorization or rewrite of no child left behind. What are they doing to motivate the

Part of when we talk about some of the impacts of ferguson people want Police Officers to be accountable. They want transparency. They want to know cops are doing what they are supposed to do. 99. 9 of the time, my cops are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The cameras are going to confirm that for the public and anybody else who is interested. Host do they go on automatically . How do they work . Guest you have to turn them on. We are in a Pilot Program now. Weve just gone. Ive got about 80 to 100 officers wearing the cameras right now. The officers are allowed to turn them off under certain circumstances. If they are going in to the locker room, going to the bathroom. If you and i are Police Officers and we are in the back of the station just talking about our kids and baseball and all that, you do not have to have your camera on. But

I have not reached a decision on the vote that will take place when we return in i want to september. Senate that we think would be fitting of this critical issue. Yesterday without objection we moved on to the bill, so when we come back on tuesday, we will not go through a cloture vote, not go to any procedural hurdles. We will be on the bill. I expect the majority leader will put forward the bill that we will be voting on and be right on that debate when we return and use that week to debate this issue, and each member of the senate make up his or her mind as to what he or she thinks is in the best interest of this country.
