Softball Falls to No 5 Florida, 5-0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The No. 16 Florida State softball team (10-4) lost to No. 5 Florida (14-0) on Friday, 5-0. The two teams will meet again in Tallahassee tomorrow at 6 pm. Florida State 0, Florida 5 Caylan Arnold started and pitched four innings for the Noles in the circle as she allowed two hits and one run with five strikeouts. Danielle Watson entered in relief in the fifth inning and pitched two complete innings, allowing three hits and four runs. Neither team had anything going until the fourth inning when Florida would get on the board first with a solo home run by Charla Echols to right field. Florida would extend their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth with their second home run of the game, this one was a three-run shot by Kendyl Lindaman to left field. The Gators would put up one more run in the sixth inning to make it 5-0. Florida State could not get the offense clicking as they would record just one hit and three walks. Scoring Summary B4 | C

⚾: Messick Dominates in Shutout of No 16 Virginia

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt freshman Parker Messick pitched a career-high 8.0 innings Friday and struck out 11 batters as FSU beat No. 16 Virginia 2-0 at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles (3-4, 1-3 ACC) got a pair of runs in the third inning against the Cavaliers (5-4, 1-3 ACC) as both teams combined for just seven hits and 29 strikeouts in the pitching duel. Hunter Perdue worked around a one-out single in the ninth inning to earn his first career save. Messick (1-2) was strong throughout the night for the Seminoles, notching perfect innings with four total strikeouts over the seventh and eighth frames. Energetic all night, Messick exited to a roar from the crowd of 1,422 after 114 pitches.

Noles Fall to Syracuse at the Buzzer

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Seminoles.com) – A career performance from redshirt junior Bianca Jackson could not fend off a 15-point comeback from Syracuse as the fourth-seeded Florida State women’s basketball team (10-8) fell at the buzzer to the fifth-seeded Orange (14-7), 68-67, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Women’s Tournament on Friday afternoon. “It had to be done on the defensive end and we just couldn’t get it done defensively in terms of stopping them around the rim,” Interim Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said following the loss. “[Syracuse] hit a couple key three-pointers when they needed to.” Jackson was the heart and soul of this game for the Noles, recording a career-high 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field, along with leading the team with seven assists. It is also her 14th double figure game, which leads the team this season.

Volleyball Sweeps Duke on the Road

BOX SCORE TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Volleyball continues its strong spring season with a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-22, 25-19) over Duke on Friday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium. “We played great overall today,” FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. “A lot of different players stepped up at key moments in the match. We will need to come out tomorrow with the same intensity and focus.” The Seminoles (7-3, 4-3) are now 6-0 this spring. They got their first road win in as many tries in the new season behind a strong performance from sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier and her seven kills and six blocks. Clothier hit .636 in the match, not record a single attack error in 11 swings. Redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey was outstanding with 29 assists and 13 digs for a double-double showing. Dailey added three kills on the day and an impressive five blocks. In three sets, the Seminoles totaled 10 team blocks and attacked at an efficient .294 clip. Duke hit .195
