Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is now facing a second investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct with minors, this one launched by the House Ethics Committee on Friday afternoon.
This all stems from allegations that Gaetz partook in sex trafficking and paid a minor for sex. The Committee is aware of public allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct, the House Ethics Committee wrote in a press release. An associate of Rep. Matt Gaetzâs is working toward a plea deal with federal prosecutors investigating a sex trafficking operation, potentially escalating the legal and political jeopardy facing the Florida congressman.
The revelation that a political ally of Gaetzâs, Joel Greenberg, is seeking to strike a plea deal with investigators came during a hearing Thursday at federal court in Orlando. Itâs a significant step in the case and signals that Greenberg could potentially serve as a witness in the Justice Departmentâs investigation into Gaetz.
What caught the eyes of investigators is a trip to the Bahamas in late 2018 or early 2019, said to have been arranged by a marijuana entrepreneur.
NBC, CBS, and the New York Times say expenses for the trip including female escorts were paid by Orlando-based hand surgeon and marijuana investor Jason Pirozzolo.
The Times report cites sources familiar with the probe saying the plane carrying the participants returned to Florida, where it was stopped by immigration authorities. Beshears was among those on board, according to reports. It isn t clear why authorities stopped the plane.
Greenberg s attorney this week said a judge has set a May 15 deadline for his client to reach a plea agreement with federal authorities.

The Daily Beast, Gaetz paid Greenberg $900 through the phone payment app Venmo late one evening in May 2018. The next morning, Greenberg then used Venmo to pay three young women separate sums of money that added up to exactly $900. In the field on the app to describe the purpose of the payments, Greenberg said that the funds were for “Tuition,” “School,” and “School.”
