More good news with Florida’s trend of new coronavirus cases. Florida’s daily rate of cases peaked a month ago today and has now improved for four consecutive weeks dropping from nearly 6,800 a month ago to 3,007 today.
The rate of new vaccinations continues to be sluggish. Florida’s now had three straight weeks of more Floridians being vaccinated with a second dose of a vaccine than a first. 9.7 million Floridians have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine with 7.7 million who’ve completed a vaccine series.
Gambling opponents from across the state rallied Tuesday at the Florida Capitol, speaking out against the new Seminole Compact awaiting approval from the Legislature.

Gambling opponents from across the state rallied at the State Capitol Tuesday against the new Seminole Compact awaiting approval from the Legislature.
Opponents argued the new deal is unconstitutional and must go before voters.
The proposed compact with the Seminole Tribe brought one of the largest gatherings of Floridians to the State Capitol since the start of the pandemic.
But they didn’t come to show support.
“We do not want to be the destination casino state,” said John Stemberger, President of Florida Family Action.

The House approved a measure Wednesday that some fear would set up a major blow to the standardbred horse industry.
The chamber voted 73-43 to allow racetracks and other gaming sites to convert solely to other forms of gambling, preparing the pari-mutuel regulatory bill (
proposal to preserve racing at Florida’s only harness racing track.
