Gang wars spill into courts
MASERU – FOR the first time in history a gang will fight it in court instead of violently gunning each other down in the streets.
The feared Terene gang, in whose vestige there is bloodshed, widows and orphans, is now fighting over the retention of the name after the death of its founder Rethabile Mokete, known as Mosotho Chakela, earlier this year.
But this time his successors Nteei Tšehlana, a loyalist of Chakela, and Sello Sarele, popularly known as Lehlanya (Lunatic), have referred their disputes to their lawyers.
Lehlanya is a loyalist of a slain Molefi Matima, widely known as Mokata Lirope (a guard of thighs), whom he says was murdered at the instigation of Chakela.
