Steven A Johnson 65 of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully at home with family at his side on Friday June 17, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with MS. Born March 28, 1957, in Superior WI to Donald and Leona (Kozey) Johnson, Steve was the youngest of 5 boys. After attending Denfeld High School, he graduated from Duluth Technical College with a degree in Drafting. Steve served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1978. Professionally, he worked for Master Bread, Husky Hydraulics, and as a building estimator for Sell Hardware of which he retired in 2013 after a successful career spanning 27-years. On September 24, 1993, Steve married his sweetheart Bonnie Witt who remained steadfast through sickness and health for the last 29-years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis, and sister-in-law Mary. Steve is survived by wife Bonnie, Stepsons Derrick (wife Jessie) of Eden Prairie, MN, Adam (wife Amy) Prior Lake, MN, seven grandchildren including Jordan, Makenzee, Payton,

What You Need to Know: In “How to Sell Hardware,” Theaster Gates’s third solo exhibition with Gray Gallery, the artist continues his engagement with a family-owned True Value hardware store located on Chicago’s South Side. During the 1970s and ‘80s, the store was part of a thriving local community, but in the 1990s, its fate followed that of the community’s broader downturn. Gates acquired the store, and all of its merchandise, in 2014. “How to Sell Hardware” creates an immersive environment that follows the history of this urban space. 

Bids tabulated for part of Ely school project

School board set to award construction work next week Posted Keith Vandervort ELY – A public bid opening last Thursday for the first phase of a multi-year building and facility renovation project for the Ely school district gave construction managers and district officials an idea of the real-world cost expectations, estimated to cost about $20 million. Project construction manager Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. hosted the bid opening in the Washington School auditorium. Just a couple of contractors, a representative from Architectural Resources, Inc., two ISD 696 staff members, a school board member, and a member of the local media witnessed the arduous task of opening and tabulating the sealed bids on more than 30 work scopes.
