State Rep. Donald Wong has secured a $50,000 grant to pay for solar pedestrian crosswalk signs.
Wong reported that the town received $50,000 to go toward the purchase of 10 sets of solar light-up signs that can be positioned at busy crosswalks in town.
A few years back, Wong asked residents what they felt the town really needed. One of the best ideas came from Selectman Corinne Riley to obtain solar display signs for crosswalks, he said.
Wong said he only wished the grant came in sooner, noting the town has an unfortunate recent history of vehicles striking pedestrians.
In January 2018, a car hit Bob and Judy Hoffman while they were in a crosswalk. Judy tragically died as a result of the injuries she sustained, Wong said.
