WESTPORT When one thinks of the “greatest generation” or World War II Generation,Russ Hart is one of the first people to come to mind, according to state Rep. Paul Schmid.
Many Westporters, like Schmid, appear to feel the same about Hart, 92, a Renaissance man who has served his community in many ways.
Hart spent four years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, with three of those spent in Europe.
He joined the town’s American Legion Post 145 in 1971 and was honored on Monday, March 15, for 50 years of service to the post.
But service to his country and working with local veterans are only part of the Russ Hart story.
