(San Jose, California) EAC There is increasing sentiment to address the ongoing fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray area. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks said in a Center for Strategic and International Studies briefing recently that he and his colleagues at the committee and the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations are planning to hold hearings on this crisis in the next few weeks. However, one hopes such hearings and any resulting congressional action will have a clear view of how we got to this situation in Ethiopia and understand how best to resolve it satisfactorily.

Weeks after ending law enforcement operations in the Tigray region, the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) continued to arrest members of the outlawed Tigray People’s Liberation Front.
Yesterday, the ENDF detained the founding member and most senior living member of the TPLF,
Sebahat Nega, along with seven other individuals, including two colonels, who had defected from the national army.
The fugitive was captured hiding in a ravine where it was extremely difficult to reach, ENDF Deployment Department Head, Brigadier General Tesfaye Ayalew, told the Ethiopian News Agency.
Sebahat Nega is now amongst dozens of TPLF leaders captured by the army earlier this week.
