CIRCLEVILLE A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Utah s Piute County on Tuesday afternoon, a report from the U.S. Geological Survey shows. The quake s epicenter was 10 miles southwest of Circleville, sending weak tremors up to 2.0 magnitude northward through Beaver and southward through Panguitch and Parowan at 3:14 p.m., the USGS shows. Such tremors are not strong enough to cause damage, the report says. Since 1962, a total of 47 earthquakes at 3.0 or greater magnitude have occurred within 16 miles of the epicenter of this quake, The University of Utah s Seismograph Station said in a release. The worst of the quakes was a 4.6 magnitude earthquake 4.6 miles northwest of Circleville on Jan. 3, 2011.
