NBC SVG The ongoing monitoring exercise at La Soufriere Volcano will receive  a boost this week, with the arrival of two Scientists from the Seismic Research Centre based at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. The National Emergency Management Organisation, NEMO says Dr. Thomas Christopher and Dr. Adam Stinton will arrive here later this week, to join the three-member team which is already here. NEMO says they are expected to gather data from the dome and crater, through temperature and photo-grammetry measurements and gas measurements, using a MultiGAS and Spec-trometer. NEMO says the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, CDEMA is finalizing helicopter support for the Seismic Research Centre team to install equipment, and collect samples from the summit of the volcano.

Professor Robertson made the disclosure, as he provided an update on the monitoring exercise, during WE FM s Issue At Hand programme on Sunday. Professor Robertson highlighted some possible effects of the gases being emitted from the Volcano.  

Turkish vessel leaves port to continue E Med research

Oruc Reis leaves southern port of Antalya to do research in Eastern Mediterranean Ayse Yildiz   | 23.12.2020 ANTALYA, Turkey Turkish seismic research vessel the Oruc Reis left the country’s southern port of Antalya on Wednesday to continue its work in the Eastern Mediterranean. Following the release of another Navtex alert lasting through next June 15, the Oruc Reis left the port, accompanied by two other vessels, the Ataman and Cengiz Han. The ship had returned to Antalya on Nov. 30 for maintenance and refueling. The Orus Reis does geological, geophysical, hydrographic and oceanographic surveys, especially of the continental shelf, while also searching for natural resources.
