FMC director talks tough as father 'assaults' doctor over child's death – Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Daud Olatunji, Abeokuta The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu, on Monday, talked tough when an enraged father who lost his child as a result of alleged negligence, beat a doctor to a pulp. Our correspondent gathered that the enraged father reportedly threw caution to the wind on Friday after losing his 15-month-old daughter. He reportedly hit the doctor on the head several times with a chair before the doctor was rescued. A statement issued by the Head of Public Relations and Information of the hospital, Segun Orisajo, indicated that the incident happened on Friday around 12 am at the Children Emergency Room of the hospital.

How we escaped being burnt to death in our vehicles — Ogun tanker fire survivors

Punch Newspapers Sections Daud Olatunji Thirty-year-old Ayoade Adetola whose Sports Utility Vehicle was damaged in the Tuesday tanker explosion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, which killed three persons and injured six others, waved her hands in adoration to God for her narrow escape. She thereafter narrated her experience to somebody on the phone when our correspondent met her after the accident. Adetola was one of the persons who could have been burnt to death in the explosion that occurred early morning on the presidential Boulevard, Kuto, Abeokuta. The accident occurred close to both a commercial bank and a school. Our correspondent gathered that the 33,000 fuel-laden tanker reportedly caught fire shortly after it had a partial head-on collision with Adetola’s car. But miraculously the vehicle’s four occupants were unhurt while the SUV was badly damaged.

Five dead in Osun, Ogun, Rivers road crashes

Punch Newspapers Sections Bola Bamigbola, Daud Olatunji and Sampson Itode No fewer than five people have lost their lives in separate road accidents in Osun, Ogun and Rivers states. In Osun, two passengers lost their lives in a crash along the Ilesha-Akure Expressway near Iwaraja Junction. The accident, which occurred around 10pm on Wednesday, involved two vehicles – a truck and a bus. PUNCH Metro gathered that both vehicles were going towards Akure from Ilesha when they had a collision. The Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed the accident. Ogungbemi said while the corpse of one of the victims was taken to the morgue of the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesha, the remains of the second victim could not be removed.

Ogun tanker explosion victim dies The other two victims of the tanker explosion are in a stable condition and responding to treatment in Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta. A victim of Tuesday’s tanker explosion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has died. The unnamed male victim, 42, died at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, on Thursday. He was one of three victims of the explosion receiving treatment at the hospital. The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Segun Orisajo, said in a statement that the deceased sustained 96 per cent flame-burn injury. “On admission, he along with the two other patients were commenced on intravenous fluid resuscitation in accordance with the established protocols for the management of burns”, Mr Orisajo said.
