PAW PAW, MI St. Julian Winery in Southwest Michigan has been in the winemaking business for 100 years.
Founded in 1921 by Mariano Meconi, St. Julian Winery is the longest-operating winery in the state of Michigan, according to a news release from the winery.
The winery, located in Paw Paw, has continued winemaking and spirit production through a variety of challenges over that time, the release said.
St. Julian Winery in Paw Paw is celebrating its 100-year anniversary with the release of six limited-edition wines.
In 1921, Italian immigrant Mariano Meconi started a wine company in Ontario. After Prohibition was repealed, he moved his company to Detroit, and eventually to Paw Paw, which sits on the Lake Michigan Shore Appellation Michigan’s premier grape-growing region.
“We have survived Prohibition, wars, the Great Depression, the Great Recession, fires, family tragedies, a pandemic and countless other challenges over our 100-year timeline,” St. Julian Winery President John Braganini said in a news release. “As we move into our next century of opportunity, we have positioned the company for an exciting journey.”
