resignation, they re impugning them, causing them to resign. this is just an unusual one. yeah. i m not sure the first two are any different, firing them or asking for their resignation. right. they re about the same. but, you know, we ve seen this before. we saw it with william sessions who was the head of the fbi who was eventually basically told to step down by bill clinton over some issues about security improvements at the fbi director s house. but the president expressed his displeasure, but mr. sessions has made it clear that he s not going anywhere. he believes he s doing the right thing. and i must say he s remaining a loyal soldier. i don t think that jeff sessions has had a sipping elpublic appears answer either before congress or in speeches or in news krchlsz where he doesn t at some point praise the president. and he did that today in a public statement he put out about his task force he s appointed on violent crime. so he continues to praise hiss
but the bad news is, if the cia can do it other people might do. so the most important thing you can do, as soon as companies find out about these hacks they can push out patches to their customers. those are just software updates. that comes with some security improvements as well as new features. the other thing you can do is think about the amount of devices in your home that connect to the internet. even if they are not being hacked in a way that exposes your personal information, they leave an entry point to come in. basically, just consider, do i really need this to connect to the internet? if not, maybe go ahead and turn off that wifi or buy the nonsmart version of that device. nonquestion fanother questio asking, should i stop using these chat programs that are out there. and the first thing that comes to mind is end to end even
able to use in the event of a conflict. dams, what s happening in major cities, for example electrical grids, it s not that they intend to attack one single dam. it s they re trying to understand the capabilities they can imploy in the event of a conflict. you have to separate out what they re collecting now and how it might be used down the road. this is an alarming statistic. according to the wall street journal, 295 industrial control system hacking incidents were reported from september 2014 to september 2015. that s up from 245 the year before. the number of successful hacks keeps going up. what security improvements can be taken to prevent these attacks? there s got to be a conversation between the private sector and the government and congress has to get involved. it s the same conversation you have ongoing dark, that is encryption allowing terrorists to communicate without the government intercepting them. you don t want to force the private to cooperate. because as soon
continuing to do what we can to support the transition. it is very much in my view in america s interest to continue to try to do so. i yield back. the chair will recognize the general lady from illinois ms. duckworth. i understand there were securiity improvements made. can you talk about those prior to the attacks and perhaps some of the things you sort of eluded to with more ventilation in the safe rooms and some of those things? yeah, there were a number of security improvements that were made to the facility. again, there was an emphasis on the outer walls, to try to create a more effective guard
above the location, but it took some time to get there. it had to be i m sorry, it was an unarmed drone, correct? it was on, an unarmed uav. yeah, uav, right. so we, we asked for everything we could get. and everybody immediately tried to provide it. but i think now there s more awareness that maybe we should be doing these scenarios ahead of time to try to figure out what could be done without having to you know reinvent it every time. thank you. i m out of time, mr. chairman. yield back to the gentle lady from illinois. the chair would recognize the gentle woman from indiana. thank you, madam secretary. i m going to follow up on what the congresswoman from illinois is discussing, which is the facility and i appreciate the laundry list that you just listed with respect to the security improvements or
