CHICO, Calif. - With the new year comes new laws and another minimum wage increase.
But it means money gets just that much tighter for businesses, especially when some have half of their business shutdown because of the pandemic. They totally deserve it, and it s a good thing, but right now it s a hard thing, said Charlie Barrett, next to his wife and co-owner of Secret Trail Brewery in Chico. And we re gonna make it work.
I don t know if there s much of a difference other than we ve been through it, said Michelle Barrett, co-owner of Secret Trail Brewery in Chico about the second stay-at-home order this year.
Secret Trail Brewery is allowed to serve beer-to-go only during the stay-at-home order, still, they re anticipating to take a hit. It s big. It s very big. It cuts our earnings probably in half, and it probably cuts the profits more than that, so it s gonna be hard, said Head Brewmaster Charlie Barrett. We re gonna try to stay these first three weeks without laying anybody off and then we ll take a look if it goes longer than what the Governor had said, said Michelle about what s different this time around. In the last shutdown, the brewery laid off a majority of its staff.
