A large throng showed up at Hollywood Dayton Raceway on Saturday (Dec. 11) to witness and wager on an exciting 14-race card peppered with three mini-series final legs as well as a plethora of opening legs of mini-series for some of the best horses in the southern Ohio and Indiana region.
Secret Threat (Trace Tetrick) and Voracity (Dan Noble), currently the top two horses in North America in terms of seasonal earnings, finished first and second in the $37,500 championship leg of Miami Valley’s Claim To Fame Series for $30,000 claimers on Sunday (Jan. 24).
Secret Threat was on top of the field at the first quarter beam in :27.1, but was shuffled back to fourth before Voracity reached the halfway point in :55.2. Voracity held the lead through three-quarters in 1:22.2 and kept the field at bay until Secret Threat reached to prevail in the final steps.
The 1:51.1 clocking was the quickest of Secret Threat’s three wins this year to go with one second-place finish. Trainer Tyler George owns the nine-year-old son of Palone Ranger with longtime friend Justin Lloyd. The Tetrick-George driver-trainer combination has been a dominant force in the first month of the Miami Valley meet, with Tetrick well ahead in the dash derby and George sporting a Universal Training average
Four divisions of $30,000 claiming pacers comprised the final preliminary for their Claim To Fame series at Miami Valley on Sunday (Jan. 17), with 10 of them earning spots in the $37,500 championship tilt next week.
Winners in this leg were Voracity (Brett Miller, 1:51.3, $6), Ginger Tree Marty (Chris Page, 1:53.2, $3.20), So So Delightful (Trevor Smith, 1:53, $13.60) and Dont Judge A Book (William Mann, 1:51.4, $6).
Voracity and So So Delightful were repeat winners in the series, but both will race for new connections in the final. Both were claimed by new owners for $39,000 (30 percent premium over base starting price) and will be among the favourites in the final.
