This town is famous for its volcanic crater lakes, its caves, and multiple sinkholes, and when i heard you can actually swim in a series of three limestone sinkholes just south of here, i just knew i had to take a trip to ewens ponds. Neighbors say the smell is already overwhelming. They cant imagine it getting worse. Tara moriarty is joining us now from the Milpitas San Jose city line with more on the proposed changes. Tara. Its 4 30 in the morning and you can smell the stench of garbage miles away. It is that smell that has them so angry. Now at a meeting last night, the people who run the landfill the new be island landfill announced their desire to expand. They want to increase the height of the landfill from 150 feet to 245 feet and increase cubic capacity by 15 million cubic yards. Its an idea that does not sit well with neighbors.
