people be getting the pfizer booster lot. no. they should not. there s absolutely no data supporting that moderna or j&j recipients would do well or there s safety behind getting a pfizer shot at this point. we know we have data around the corner coming on moderna boosters which will likely be a lower dose than the original moderna series. we also have a press release about j&j boosters that was really promising, but the even better news from moderna and j&j recipients there s less evidence that those two have waned in efficacy against the delta variant than there is from pfizer and even from the pfizer vaccine, i want to re-emphasize the point that president biden made which is if you have received your first two shots of the pfizer vaccine you are so protected. you re not back to where we were in 2020 even if you don t receive a above thor. age 65-plus, please run out and go out and get the booster
reporter: yeah. reporters are walking no the room to watch the president get this booster shot on cameras, of course. the reason that s happening on camera is the white house wants to use this moment to send a message to the rest country for those eligible based on what the cdc and the fda have authorized so far that they should be getting their booster shot. obviously the president is over 65 years of age so he qualifies for this, and so this will be his third dose of the pfizer vaccine after he got that first one last december. he got a second one in january and now he ll be getting the third one on camera and making remarks about it as well as they are trying to make this push to get people who are eligible to get that third dose of the vaccine. of course, right now that s just for pfizer. there are certain subsets depending on your job and your age and when you got your first shot of who was actually authorized to get that vaccine as others who got the other vaccines, moderna and
boosters for now. you re eligible for a booster if it s been six months since your second pfizer shot and if you fall into one of these categories, people over 65, which is hard to acknowledge. adults i m only joke, folks. adults with certain underlying health conditions like diabetes and obesity and those are at increased risk of covid-19 because of where you work or where you live like health care workers, teachers, first responders, grocery store clerks. if you fall in any of these categories you re eligible for the booster. i know it doesn t look like it, but i am over 65. i wish way over, and that s why i m getting my booster shot today. the booster line is if you re fully the bottom line is if you re fully vaccinated and you re highly protected now from severe illness, even if you get
members of the nypd in the hospital, all unvaccinated. there is a connection between vaccination and hospitalization rates. take west virginia. lowest vaccination rate and the highest vaccination rate. we are going through the peak and it looks like we re starting to turn down. reporter: the delta driven surge is still rolling around the country, but i think by thanksgiving it will have run the course across the whole country. it should decline on the back end of the delta wave and we get back to more normalcy when vaccines will be available for children as well and people could protect their kids also. reporter: now even when those kids are authorized for the vaccine, even when the booster roll out, we re not anticipating a shortage of the pfizer vaccine. which in one sense is great news. in another sense it is terrible news because it means that the demand for first doses isn t that high and there are still
