do you think he has sent well cooked, well thought out legislation to congress so far? do you think paul ryan thinks he has a good partner in donald trump? i think there s no question on the tax cut. that was well thought out. that s the principals republicans have believed in for years. on health care reform, i think the president was the one pushing for it. it was a failure inside the house republican coges to unify. and if they re not able to unify in the second go round, what ser the point of having the republicans control the house? republican margins are thin and it s a tricky mix. that s the thing. we had a mini drama this week over a government shut down. the first time ever having that discussion when you control all three branchs, right. one of the realities of donald trump is yes, he was a republican on the ballot last year but in a lot of ways he was a political independent who got control of the republican party
on the clinton camp. oftentimes during that campaign, he had stepped out and stepped on something. what comes to mind is when hillary clinton testified at the fbi. you know, that was a huge story republicans jumped all over, but donald trump then made those comments about judge curiel, who is the judge on his trump university, saying that because he was of mexican heritage, he might not be the right judge for that case, and that totally blanketed the news coverage. and reince priebus was able in that second go-round, when the e-mail stuff came to a head again right before the election, to help that fire burn on the clinton side, which really helped donald trump. the other thing i want to point out here, fred, is that, you know, reince priebus is a guy who has fixed broken organizations before. if you remember, you know, we ve made a lot of the fact that he is the longest serving rnc chairman. you know, he took over back in 2011. that was after a time when a lot of republicans felt like
cartwright? and why didn t they protect general petraeus? and why didn t they protect a kid who s taken a couple pictures of a submarine that s an old submarine and they put him in jail. they put him in jail. lovely family, lovely mother. put him in jail, because he wanted to have some remembrance where he worked. old submarine. believe me, pick commeture of t submarine probably know knows about. put him in jail and they see what she does and shes allowed to run for president. you know what that tells you, folks? the system s rigged. i ve been telling you that for a long time. hillary engaged in a massive criminal enterprise and cover-up. she created an illegal e-mail server to shield her criminal activity and corrupt pay for play. she illegally transmitted confidential nfrinformation. you re just not allowed to do that. forget about the second go-round
well, right now we have the attorneys and the accountants doing the routine things of writing and making our case. the easiest, nicest thing that would happen is they would accept our arguments like they did two years ago. the fact this is the second go-round. they backed off when we listed the legal arguments against this, so the big then now is are they going to treat it the same way as they did before? or are they going to come down hard on us and expect us to pay a lot of money in fines? i mean, that will, of course, be devastating. but we also strongly believe in the privacy issue, and it s been proven by the supreme court that you don t have to do it. so we have the law and we have the morality on our side. we have the people on our side. we just have to do our very best to try to well, i don t want to be cynical i don t want to be cynical, congressman. do you think any of this might have a thing or two to do with your son possibly running for president? well, i guess
