Postmaster General Louis DeJoy acknowledged failures in the delivery of holiday mail in an appearance Wednesday on Capitol Hill but blamed the delays on the coronavirus pandemic and what he said were long-festering problems within the U.S. Postal Service.
DeJoy, a longtime Republican donor and ally of former President Donald Trump, stirred outrage shortly after he was named postmaster general in May 2020 by ordering the removal of mail-sorting machines in postal facilities, cutting overtime for mail carriers and making other controversial changes.
While Democrats questioned him at the hearing of the House Oversight Committee, DeJoy remained defiant, telling Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., that he would oversee the Postal Service for a long time. Get used to me.

Dr. Jill Biden s Valentine display was lovely. I don t want it to be her main job.
The White House tradition needs to be at least questioned, if not completely re-evaluated.

No matter how conflicted you feel about Valentine’s Day, and whether or not it should be abolished once and for all, it was hard to not to let out a collective and audible “dawww” when we woke up to the news that First Lady Dr. Jill Biden had accessorized the front lawn of the White House with giant hearts etched with gentle words like “kindness,” “unity” and “compassion.”
You would have to be under a rock to not have seen at least one Bernie Sanders meme from his Inauguration Day outfit.
Inauguration day is a chance to release the inner style icon in all the attendees. Michelle Obama s outfit with her jewel toned colors and belted waist was a showstopper. The internet was abuzz with Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff’s daughter Ella’s jewel-studded coat.
But the real fashion icon of the day was Bernie Sanders.
Vermont’s own Bernie Sanders stole the show with his practical Burton Jacket and the handmade mittens that just made the outfit. Bernie appeared like he was just stopping off at the inauguration on the way to run errands, and it is one of the reasons we just love Bernie.

Nairobi County Deputy Governor Anne Kananu [Samson Wire, Standard]
The game of chess is not an exercise in public participation. Neither is the search for elective leaders as it would seem with the installation of Anne Kananu earlier this week. The inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris illustrates why this approach is so short-sighted and further stunts our young democratic culture.
The January 20 inauguration of Biden/Harris was remarkable in several ways. Four stood out for me. First, the sight of a 78-year-old President - the oldest person to be sworn in as President in the history of America - being called to serve by 22-year-old Amanda Gorman, America’s youngest inauguration poet. Her poem, “The Hill We Climb” deserves to be presented to all who claim leadership.
