Secaucus Car Stop Leads To Loaded Gun, Say Police

UpdatedFri, Feb 12, 2021 at 3:00 pm ET Reply (Secaucus police) SECAUCUS, NJ A car stop by Secaucus Police Wednesday for not having a driver s side mirror resulted in a loaded handgun being found in the car, police said. At 7:54 p.m. Wednesday, Secaucus Police Officer Michael Borrelli stopped the car on Rt. East for not having a driver side mirror. The officer said he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the passenger compartment of the car and observed the passenger with suspected marijuana protruding out of his front pants pocket. The driver, Malena Kennerly and sole passenger, Jeffrey Reynolds both exited the vehicle, while a search of the passenger compartment was undertaken. Officer Borrelli said he located some suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a machete and large knife in the car.

During the stop, it became known that the driver possessed a loaded semi-automatic handgun. The handgun was easily accessible to the driver as it was positioned directly next to the driver’s seat, authoritites said.
