Covid-19: Sarawak records 555 cases on Friday (April 9), state s highest ever

KUCHING: Sarawak reported its highest daily figure of Covid-19 cases with 555 on Friday (April 9), more than half involving close contacts of patients. Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said 292 of the new cases were close contacts with positive cases while 124 were detected through the screening of individuals in active clusters. All of them have been placed in quarantine centres, he said at the state disaster management committee s briefing here. Uggah said there was one imported case involving an individual returning from Equatorial Guinea while the rest were detected through screening at health facilities. He also said there were three new fatalities, involving two Sarawakians and one Filipino.

KUCHING: Over a third of new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak reported on Wednesday (April 7) comes from a new cluster in Meradong, as the state continued to record the nation s highest daily infection figure with 332 cases. The state disaster management committee said 119 of the new cases were from the Sungai Kawi cluster in Meradong. It said another new cluster, named the Jalan Bangunan Kerajaan cluster, was also detected on Wednesday in Beluru, with six new cases. Meradong topped the districts in the state which reported new cases with 121, followed by Bintulu (48), Miri (43), Sibu (36), Kuching (24), Samarahan (13), Julau (six), Asajaya, Beluru, Daro, Sarikei, Serian and Sri Aman (four each), Betong, Kapit and Mukah (three each), Sebauh and Subis (two each) and Belaga, Dalat, Limbang, and Tebedu (one each).

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah. - Filepic/The Star KUCHING: Over 100 of Sarawak s 385 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (April 6) came from the Tembok cluster in Sri Aman prison, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah. He said 128 new cases were linked to the cluster and were made up of prisoners, people working at the prison and the families of prison personnel. They comprise 122 prisoners, four prison staff members and two family members of prison personnel, he said at the state disaster management committee s Covid-19 briefing here. The Tembok cluster was detected on April 4 after an inmate at Sri Aman prison tested positive on April 1 and currently has 288 confirmed cases.
