Cade McLean Deliver Game Winner for San Marcos in First-Place Showdown With Santa Barbara

Housing and Development Newsletter McLean’s goal came seven minutes after Santa Barbara nearly took the lead on a brilliantly taken free kick by Seba Alvarez from 20 yards straight out. Alvarez’s blast cleared the wall, clanged the underside of the cross bar, bounced off the ground, hit the bar again and dropped into the arms of San Marcos goalie Sam Friedman. In a video from a cellphone, it appeared the ball cleared the goal line. But it was such a bang-bang play that the assistant referee couldn’t make a call.  “It’s unlucky,” said Alcaraz. “That’s part of the game. We’re gonna get calls and we’re not going to get calls sometimes. You can’t complain, you just got to move on.”

Caden Vom Steeg s Extra-Time Goal Gives San Marcos 2-2 Draw at Santa Barbara | Sports

By Barry Punzal, Noozhawk Sports Editor | @NoozhawkSports | 10:09 p.m. Santa Barbara High School was defending like crazy during the last 15 minutes to hold a one-goal lead in Thursday’s boys soccer crosstown match against San Marcos. But the visiting Royals broke through as Caden Vom Steeg buried a shot from inside the box during extra time, and the Channel League clash ended in a 2-2 draw at Peabody Stadium. “They were on us the last 15 minutes, and it was just one of those games where you just have to weather the storm, and I thought we did that,” Santa Barbara coach Ricardo Alcaraz said. They got the goal in the very last minute, so credit to them, they worked hard.”
