Fossil-based natural gas may be headed for a reckoning, at least in Washington State. Not long ago, natural gas was seen by many as the key “bridge fuel” necessary to transition our society away from oil and coal. Natural gas has its upsides; most significantly, it burns more efficiently and emits fewer pollutants than coal.
1 Yet burning natural gas still emits greenhouse gases (GHG), including methane, a potent climate pollutant. According to EPA, methane accounts for approximately 10% of the GHG emissions in the United States.
2 That is a problem for states like Washington that have called for zero carbon emissions in the power sector by 2045 and have also enacted laws aimed at reducing GHG emissions throughout other sectors.

Jeff Bezos, a giant pencil with the eraser part missing, is stepping down as CEO of Amazon, a company that
allegedly forces workers to piss in bottles rather than take a bathroom break. Bezos will reportedly move into a new role as executive chair, and will be replaced by another white guy, Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy. In a statement, Bezos says the new role will give him time to focus on my other passions. Rich thinks Guy Palumbo is probably very happy.

The ordinance will be take effect immediately upon signature by Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan. Mayor Durkan expects to sign the ordinance on February 3.
Sunset Date
According to the City of Seattle’s press release accompanying the ordinance, hazard pay “will be in effect for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, though Council may reconsider the legislation at the four month mark. This timeframe corresponds with the state department of health’s COVID vaccination plan to make vaccines available to all-aged grocery employees by April 2021.”

A Seattle cop who has been guarding Mayor Jenny Durkan s $7.5 million mansion said the post sometimes leaves shifts at the North Precinct understaffed and subjects officers to hours of boredom without relief. We don’t even have a bathroom out there. There s no bathroom. And [her street] has the worst fucking cell phone service. You just sit there and stare and think about how shitty your life is for four or five hours, said one officer who requested anonymity.
