It doesn’t logically make sense to downgrade Jones when Jamaal Williams, who saw 35 targets and averaged 14 routes per game with the Packers last year, departed to Detroit in free agency. It’s possible AJ Dillon will stumble into that role by default, but it makes more sense for Jones to soak up a majority of that vacated opportunity, creating an even higher ceiling for the latter after he averaged career-highs in carries (14.3) and targets (4.5) across 14 appearances last year. Dillon meanwhile has only totaled 23 catches over his last 46 games dating back to his first year at Boston College, which takes him out of the running for Williams’ previous role on third downs. Jones should be treated as a mid-range RB1 with top-three upside instead of being grouped with the low-end fodder.
