welcome back. this crucial news overseas. protests are heating up in israel, this after the army arrested dozens of palestinians. those arrests came after two israeli soldiers were shot and killed at a bus stop. hamas called for a day of unrest in response. moments ago, our team witnessed a 13-year-old palestinian boy shot in the leg as these protests broke out once again. ian lee is there following the developments. walk us through this. well, poppy, we were in ramallah, and parts of the west bank today, and there s a heavy security presence there. many checkpoints, searching cars. looking for the perpetrators that killed those two soldiers. but meanwhile, we had these protests in and around ramallah and other parts of the west bank.
hot spots in the middle east, new turmoil in egypt to tell you about. right now thousands of muslim brotherhood supporters are taking to the streets there calling for an end to the military government. this is the scene in alexandria, the country s second largest city. street battles erupting there with government supporters. right now security forces are said to be trying to separate the two sides. tensions also heightened in cairo today after yesterday s assassination attempt on egypt s interior minister. no one was killed, but 22 people were injured. security forces tightening their grip on cairo, searching cars, still looking for more explosives in the rubble. the violence raising fears that supporters of mohamed morsi, the ousted president, will start a new wave of attacks against the military-led government. the muslim brotherhood has condemned the attempted assassination. jenna: some argue, even on our program, that egypt is even more important than what happens in syria because
that is those are a lot of moving parts in addition to possibly looking for another suspect there. that is huge clock with a lot of moving parts. one of the things law enforcement would have to do is stop anyone from coming on campus other than emergency response personnel. we understand if it was a family member, we want to get to them. but with 18,000 people already on campus, police, fbi, everybody else there s got their hands full so i m sure they would stop people from entering the campus but realize, tamron, the other side of it is that there may be a lot of students, employees trying to get in the students and get campus. law enforcement has to be able to screen those cars to make sure the shooter, that we believe they re still looking for, is not trying to escape by that route, too. so they have to be looking, searching cars, perhaps as they leave campus. this is really chews up with
the washington post says the u.s. embassy in tripoli has been looted, ransacked and burned. in just the past hour, a new audio message purportedly from moammar gadhafi was released. meanwhile, the search for gadhafi has taken a unique turn. he may be disguised as a woman. nbc s chief foreign correspondent richard engel has more. reporter: rebels say they are now closing in on territory still held by moammar gadhafi s loyalists and fellow tribesmen. now amassed outside gadhafi s hometown of sirte, rebels have given gadhafi s men until saturday to surrender or they will invade. but gadhafi s own whereabouts remain unknown. in tripoli, rebels have been searching cars, even using photographs of how gadhafi might look dressed in disguise as a woman. what is known is that the gadhafi family has split up. last week, gadhafi s wife, two sons and a daughter named aisha
this corner. about 200 meters down there, there have been some gunshots heard and at least one protester we know has been shot and killed, but that doesn t seem to be persuading this group of protesters to go home. here they have been searching cars, this is a main intersection carrying the full road going to the east of bangkok and you can see the protesters have occupied this traffic island searching trucks primarily with the idea they want to look inside to see if there s anything in the back, presumably looking for soldiers. but we understand the army s position is at the end of this expressway over here down towards the western end of the park, and that is where the renegade army commander say they were shot through the head while he was being interviewed by the media, with some very dramatic footage taped just seconds after that shooting being carried away
