welcome to the lead. i m jake tapper and we ll continue our breaking news coverage. moments ago we got an update from atlanta police for the man hunt for a deadly mass shooting at a medical center. deion patterson should be considered armed and dangerous. he was at the building for an appointment when he became agitated. patterson started shooting in the waiting room and one person has been killed and four others injured and all of the victims women. within the last hour, atlanta police lifted the shelter in place order for the areas around the medical center. police say they believe patterson carjacked the vehicle near the scene of the shooting as police were responding. police have since found that car, but patterson was not in it. we are dealing with someone that is armed and dangerous. this is a deadly situation. this individual has just indeed conducted an act and we want to make sure that you know that if you see him do not approach, but you are to call 911. cnn s
up police are here. it s still very much an active scene even though this perimeter has softened up. there s still several police department officers outside of the north side medical center where the shooting unfolded where 24-year-old deion patterson is alleged to have opened fire killing at least one person, all of them women ranging from 25 years old to 71 years old. the deceased is a 39-year-old woman. we re told that shortly after the shooting unfolded here, that individual carjacked somebody nearby just a few blocks away, and that vehicle was recovered in cobb county which speaks to why that law enforcement presence is actively looking for patterson in the area, so very much so an active manhunt with this individual considered to be extremely dangerous and of course armed as well. thank you. let s discuss with our law enforcement experts, former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey, former secret service agent jonathan wak row and erica shields. it s been
24-year-old deion patterson who police say shot five people in a medical waiting room killing one of them, sending four of them to the hospital. investigators believe patterson then stole a car to flee the scene. they ve now since recovered that car. they re expanding the search to atlanta s northern suburbs to find patterson. let s go to cnn s nick valencia, we re hearing that there have been several reported sightings of the suspect. tell us about that. tell us where the manhunt stands now. reporter: that s right, just a short time ago cobb county police department tweeting out an update saying they ve responded to several false reports, false sightings of this individual more than 30 minutes outside of the city center from where we re standing here with this incident unfolded earlier. the same thing was happening here in atlanta according to the apd spokeswoman saying that different sightings of this individual, none of them had panned out. we did see a tense moment and just speak
