Is warning he may close the entire southern border, as he put it, entirely if he doesnt get funding for his wall. The president forced to cancel his new years plans in florida, is fuming at democrats, trying to make them and nancy pelosi, the democrats shutdown escape goats. The democrats are ready to hit back with the new power they will hold when they take control of the house in six days. I will stalk with stenny hoyer and our correspondents and analysts are standing by. First to the white house and our cnn white house correspondent, abby phillip. Clearly the president has had time to tweet. Reporter thats right. President trump has been in the white house all week, and while hes been tweeting extensively this morning, the white house hasnt said a whole lot about what hes actually been up to. Sarah sanders, the press secretary, said hes been in the office and has been making calls but there are still no signs either side is even talking to each other right now. All they are doing at
Not there was obstruction of justice by the president left it up to bill barr and Rod Rosenstein. And they landed on a final decision that said that they did not believe the president s actions which they said a lot of it was out in the public. A lot of it we saw with our own eyes, did not reach poto the pot where they could consider it obstruction of justice. He clearly was able to make a clear final answer on the question of collusion which, of course, was the big question looming over the presidency of donald trump. I think its important for us to read that one part. In bill barrs letter he quotes directly the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the russian government in election interference activities. Let there be no doubt that this letter and muellers report made clear that the russians did interfere in the 2016 election. They tried to help donald trump get elected. The president has yet to really accept that answer, b
Interview a short time ago. Senator sanders, you are going to run for president . I am going to run for president , thats correct. Whats going to be different this time . Were going to win. That would be a difference. Ryan nobles joins us now. You were out on the campaign trail with sanders. Whats the level of excitement . There is a lane for Bernie Sanders. He has a lot of loyal support he had in 2016. There are a lot of people pointing out hes not officially a democrat and, b, he is older compared to the rest of the field. The big thing sanders has going for him is the Democratic Party is closer to where he is on hot button issues. In 2016, many issues like medicare for all, free college tuition, a 15 minimum wage were considered to be radical. Now it seem s to be the price o entry in the 2020 democratic field. Bernie sanders wants to make it clear to democratic voters while all the candidates are talking about the issues now, he was the leader. Take a listen. In 2016 many of the ide
Clearance or my husbands clearance. What were the problems early on . There werent any. So no special treatment . No. Joining me now is New York Times National Security correspondent who contributed to this report. Its great to see you. What have you heard about the amount of resistance from white house staff and intelligence officials to kushner getting that top secret clearance . You know, kushners security clearance was a problem from the get go. He filed first firms listing no foreign contacts when he had a lot. Over the last two years the way the process works, you get an fbi investigation, the cia goes through intelligence. What they found were a lot of entanglements with foreign business men and foreign officials or business men who were tied to officials to their own countries and intelligence officials and that there was a real question over whether kushner had the discretion and the judgment to be trusted with american secrets and that these entanglements can be sources of le
A high delegation from mexico has been in talked in washington, d. C. For the last three days and cnn learned the talks, quote, did not end well last night. This is all despite the fact that mexico has offered to send 6,000 troops to its southern border with guatemala but the white house said the negotiations are far from over. I think were encouraged that mexico came prepared to put solutions on the table. But on wednesday i think we felt that they were wholly insufficient. They were a step forward but insufficient. As negotiations continued yesterday, we were more encouraged they came forward with some of the things we put on the table wednesday to say they were open to that. But there is a long way to go still. That is the bottom line. So, lets go straight to the white house to my colleague jeremy diamond. And jeremy, any sign the president wont be imposing the tariffs on mexico . Reporter you know, it really seems unclear at this point, brooke. Were guesting a lot of different mixe
