2020-21 Gerald F Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Award Recipients Announced

May 5, 2021 Ten student employees have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the university. A virtual award celebration honoring the winners was held on the evening of Tuesday, May 4.  The Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Award was instituted in the 1987-88 academic year. The intent of the award is to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding performance by contributing their time and/or skill to help the university achieve its goals and objectives. This year, the Scanlon Award Committee received more than 65 nomination entries. The 2020-21 Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Award Recipients are:

The Nigerian was taken off for Andre Gomes at half-time, and it’s fair to say that things went downhill from that point. It’s hard to place the blame entirely on this substitution, after all, Everton were largely poor throughout the squad in the second half, but taking Iwobi off did take a bit of dynamism away from the Toffees’ attack.

1 month ago Share Eight actors and actresses are bringing the story of lyricist Ed Kleban to life through ‘A Class Act’ at the Garden Theatre. It’s only fitting that the story of a renowned composer and lyricist’s life is told through a musical on stage. Edward “Ed” Kleban is best known as lyricist of the Broadway hit “A Chorus Line,” but he accumulated numerous accomplishments over time sharing a Pulitzer Prize for drama, working with Columbia Records and winning a Tony Award.  Kleban died 33 years ago, but to this day, his life story is written in song via the musical “A Class Act” a story that eight actors and actresses will bring to life through Feb. 7 at the Garden Theatre.

Actor Riz Ahmed on getting out of his head for his newest role

This week on The Treatment, Elvis sits down with Emmy-winning actor Riz Ahmed, whose newest role is a drummer who struggles with losing his hearing in the film “Sound of Metal.” Ahmed won an Emmy for his lead role in HBO’s series “The Night Of” and also appeared in the film “Nightcrawler.” Ahmed talks about how the physical preparation learning the drums and American Sign Language for his role in “Sound of Metal” deeply informed his performance. He also says that growing up code switching between his different identities within his traditional Pakistani family, a posh private school in England, and his friends, helped prepare him to transform for roles as an actor. And he discusses why shooting his latest film on a very tight budget that only allowed for a few takes, was actually a gift.
