Nothing lasts forever, but St. Philips & St. James Catholic Church, which has been serving the community of Phillipsburg for about 160 years, has been given new life after its recent renovation.
The construction of the original church started in 1860, and was competed in the spring of 1861. At the time it served a congregation of about 500. Today the church serves 2,200.
Over the years, the church saw change and it gained a clock tower and steeple.
In September 1972, the church went through its first remodeling. The majority of the interior was gutted. Parishioners were welcomed back on Christmas Eve of 1973 to enjoy the first two Masses that were held after renovations were complete.
