Luscious chocolate Romanian dessert a delectable treat now available in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR Finding traditional Romanian foods wasn’t that difficult for Vlad Taralunga and his family when they came to the U.S. in 2003.
But one that eluded them was the Joffre, a chocolate buttermilk layer cake with a thick chocolate ganache filling that Taralunga describes as very rich without being too sweet. The cake’s heavy cream and lighter bottom cake layer makes it a delectable treat.
And now it’s a treat available to Michiganders via a collaboration between Taralunga and 24th Cheesecakerie chef Sean Brezzell.

A three way partnership is resulting in a very special beer release this weekend. Brewed as part of the Support Black Businesses beer initiative, the beer, called Saldanha, reflects the African heritage of the brewer, while also raising money for charity.
