Last minute holiday gifts for the cook
Damon Lee Fowler
Just five short years ago, shopping in Savannah for the cooks on your Christmas list was pretty simple. Aside from the “big box” department stores, our city enjoyed four stores that catered exclusively to cooks. Then, one by one, they disappeared.
Downtown’s Kitchens on the Square, which specialized in quirky kitchen décor, closed when its owner moved away. Shortly afterward the owners of the Southside’s independent cookware vendor, Kitchenware Outfitters (where I ran the cooking school) decided to retire and move closer to their grandchildren.
The following year, Williams-Sonoma closed their Savannah store, and, just recently, Tanger Outlets in Pooler lost Kitchen Collection.
