The Durban High Court has heard about some of the alleged kickbacks former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and some of her co-accused received as a result of the manipulation of a multi-million rand Durban Solid Waste tender process.
The four companies that scored what became a R320m eThekwini Durban Solid Waste contract paid about R36.5m to community-based contractors established by local ANC heavyweights to promote “radical economic transformation” and a “patronage network”, bank statements would show.
After hearing the evidence, said prosecutor Hazel Siramen, the court would be hard-pressed to reach a conclusion other than of the accused being guilty.
