Johnson & Johnson s proposed $8.9bn settlement to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits over its talc products has been imperilled. US Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan rejected the healthcare company s second attempt to resolve the cases in bankruptcy, stating that financial distress had not forced the company to act. Plaintiffs have lodged mass lawsuits alleging that Johnson & Johnson s baby powder and other talc products caused mesothelioma, ovarian cancer and other cancers.
