A very unusual reunion took place on a South Mission Beach bay-side volleyball court last Sunday morning.
It was truly a celebration of life.
Kevin Nill, 33, who nearly died there while playing volleyball one year ago, returned and joined team members, friends and
Patricia Lutfy. She was the off-duty physician who happened to be nearby with her dog when Nill collapsed into unconsciousness.
Lutfy normally walks her dogs early in the morning but she was later that particular day, and the change in her routine played a key role in saving Nill’s life.

A teammate was trying to lift Nill, who was motionless, from the sand when she spotted him. “I thought he was dead,” she said.
